5 Good Deeds YOU NEED To Do This Christmas Season

5 Good Deeds YOU NEED To Do This Christmas Season

It is that time of year again! Another 12 months have passed and it is the holiday season yet again. Time to break out the tree, wreaths, and biscuits for Santa. While usually a happy time for all, there are always those who go without this time of year. From financial difficulites to straight up homelessness there are people in need of help across the country, especially at this time of year. While we are very fortunate to be able to spend this holiday with loved ones, some people may have to go it alone. So let us take a look at 5 things you can do this Christmas Season to give someone else an amazing Christmas this year!

Donate Your Time!

Not all of us have the luxury to be able to donate money, but fear not there is still plenty that you can do for others! From the St Vinnies Soup Van or Helping Out At Shelters your time is worth more than any cheque you could write. Across the country many people have started helping those in need, providing housing, cooking hot meals, providing basic hygiene items and just providing simple conversation. You would honestly be so surprised how many people just want some one to talk to and someone to listen to them, it is a basic thing that many of us take for granted everyday. Volunteer today!

You Haven’t Used That Sleeping Bag In A While!

Now don’t get this wrong! Do not just donate your junk! But, if you’re looking around your house and finding jumpers, blankets, sleeping bags, backpacks, shoes/boots etc. and you haven’t used them in quite a while consider giving them to somone in need. While you may have only gotten use out of some of those items when you go on holiday once of twice a year, someone else is sure to get very good daily use out of them and really make their Christmas this year! And this one won’t cost you a cent either, you’ll help others and have cleaned up all at the same time.

Donate Blood!

This is always a kind gesture regardless of the time of the year! The demand for blood is huge throughout the year but can defintely spike around Christmas and New Years. If you are young, fit and healthy (and don’t have too large a fear of needles) roll up and donate to help those that are spending these holidays in hospitals sometimes alone without their family.

Money Does Unfortunately Make The World Go Round

At the end of the day we need funds to function. Whether it is to buy your own food, or help other organisations do what they do best in feeding and housing the less fortunate. Donate your own money or raise funds by doing something difficult like a marathon or hike, or even find some old electronics you aren’t using anymore and sell them on Marketplace either way it is guaranteed that your donation will go to something worth while and help someone in need this holiday season!

Random Acts Of Kindness!

While the team here at Recovery Plus Support are firm believers that random acts of kindness should be performed year round, let’s ALL make some extra effort this holiday season, and it doesn’t have to be over the top! Buy some lunch for someone doing it tough, shout the person behind you in line a coffee, pick up some trash at your local park to keep it clean, assist someone loading their groceries into their car or even give someone a compliment!

No matter your budget, no matter how busy you are with work or school, there is a method of helping out those in need that you can start doing today! So get out there and put a smile on your own face, by doing the same for someone else in need.
